What is epoxy resin?
Epoxy resin is a high molecular polymer. The Molecular formula is (C11H12O3) n, which is the general name of a class of polymers with more than two epoxy groups in their molecules. It is the condensation product of Epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A or polyol. Due to the chemical activity of epoxy groups, various compounds containing active hydrogen can be used to open rings, solidify and crosslink to form a network structure, making it a thermosetting resin. Bisphenol A type epoxy resin not only has the largest output and the most complete variety, but also has a continuous increase in new modified varieties and quality improvement.
Epoxy resin has excellent physical, mechanical, and electrical insulation properties, as well as adhesive properties with various materials. During use, it has flexibility that other thermosetting plastics do not possess. Therefore, it can be made into coatings, composite materials, casting materials, adhesives, molding materials, injection molding materials, etc., and is widely used in various fields of the national economy.
Epoxy resin is widely used in fields such as coatings, composite materials, electronics, and motors, with three main advantages:
1. The hardening shrinkage rate of epoxy resin is very low and the dimensional stability is good.
2. The chemical properties of epoxy resin are very stable and are not subject to erosion and damage from ordinary acids, alkalis, chemicals, and industrial solvents.
3. Epoxy resin has excellent adhesion to many materials, high strength mechanical properties, ability to withstand long-term environmental stress, and high reliability.
In fact, the biggest advantage of epoxy resin is its variability. By adjusting its ingredient formula, it can quickly cure or remain unresponsive for a long time. It can become a hard adhesive or a flexible soft adhesive.
Application of epoxy resin in the field of coatings
Epoxy resin accounts for a large proportion of applications in coatings and can be made into various varieties with different characteristics and uses. Its commonalities include: (1) excellent chemical resistance, especially alkali resistance; (2) The paint film has strong adhesion, especially to metals; (3) Has good heat resistance and electrical insulation; (4) The paint film has good color retention.
Application of epoxy resin in the field of composite materials
Epoxy engineering plastics mainly include epoxy molding compounds, epoxy composite plastics and epoxy foam plastics used for high-pressure molding. Epoxy engineering plastics can also be regarded as a major class of epoxy composite materials. Epoxy composite materials mainly include epoxy glass fiber (general composite materials) and epoxy structural composite materials, such as extruded epoxy profiles, wound hollow rotating products, high-performance composite materials, etc. Epoxy composite materials are important structural and functional materials in high-tech fields such as chemical, aviation, aerospace, and military industries.
Epoxy resin adhesive
Epoxy resin adhesive is a type of engineering adhesive composed of epoxy resin substrate, curing agent, diluent, promoter, filler, etc. Due to its good bonding performance, good functionality, relatively low price, and simple bonding process, it has become an indispensable material in fields such as aircraft, missiles, rockets, satellites, spacecraft, automobiles, warships, machinery, electronics, and civil architecture in recent decades.
